Chuys Mexican Restaurant

 

While passing through the city of Van Horn, TX.  we took time to stop at another restaurant that was featured on another one of our favorite TV shows , The Day Tripper. The restaurant was Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant.

 

I have been through this small town many times though never stopped to eat. We felt it was time to give them a try. Located on the main road through town, Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant was easy to spot with several old cars and historic items out front. Inside was much of the same. Their main claim to fame is John Madden (ex. football player and retired sports commentator would stop by here while traveling through state several times a year. The owner and John’s family developed a friendship over the years and John even has a special table at the restaurant surrounded by many Madden artifacts.

 

Now to the important stuff, the food. I had the combination dinner that featured some of all. To quickly sum it up, it was okay, nothing to write home about.  The Gordita and Chile Verde were very good, the rest just okay. I will have to say that the server that we had was not very good. He seemed to lack any interest in us and just seemed that he did not want to be there that day.

 

In total, keep driving and don’t take the time to stop  unless you just want to check it out. I have always said that Mexican food is one of those that each of us have our on taste for, you might find this place better than us.
